Children under 18, or Gen Alpha, are developing a surprising interest in the world of beauty products. This phenomenon, sometimes referred to as "Sephora Kids," is driven by trendy ingredients, visually appealing packaging, and the influence of social media. In 2023, skincare spending in households with young children (6-17 years old) saw a significant growth of 27%, reflecting this trend. Prestige beauty brands are taking notice and revamping their tween skincare lines to cater to this new demographic.
Social media platforms like YouTube and TikTok are major drivers of this trend. Young consumers discover beauty trends and learn about product launches through these channels. The hashtag #tweenskincare has over 49.5 million views on TikTok, where elaborate skincare routines are showcased in popular "Get Ready With Me" videos, inspiring young viewers.

Although their social media accounts are public we have concealed the faces of any influencers under 18.
A New Generation of Influencers
A new wave of influencers from Gen Alpha are building online followings through videos posted on parent-run accounts. Take the Garza twins, Koti and Haven, for example. At just seven years old, they already share their skincare routines and fashion choices with a whopping 4.8 million followers on TikTok under the handle "@GarzaCrew." Meanwhile, older Gen Alpha influencers like Katie Fang, a 18-year-old TikTok star with 4 million followers, is a major player in the beauty influencer landscape. Her content regularly garners over a million views per video, boasting an impressive 25% engagement rate – far exceeding the industry standard of 2-5%. Fang's recommendations drive sales for brands that resonate with Gen Alpha’s preferences for pastel packaging and user-friendly formats, like Drunk Elephant's pump-jar moisturizers. This trend towards "preppy" beauty brands has been a boon for companies like Glow Recipe, whose Watermelon Glow PHA + BHA Pore-Tight Toner saw a surge in popularity after Fang incorporated it into her routine.

Gen Alpha's growing interest in beauty presents a unique opportunity for the beauty industry. However, navigating this trend necessitates a focus on responsible marketing practices and realistic beauty standards. Open communication, educational content, and collaboration between influencers, brands, and parents are key. By striking this balance, the industry can empower Gen Alpha to develop positive and informed approaches to personal care, paving the way for a future where beauty is inclusive and empowering for all.
