The 2024 World Series is poised to be one of the most anticipated baseball championships in decades. A clash between the iconic New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers, representing two of the most iconic cities in the United States, has renewed interest in the sport.
Fashion brands have swiftly capitalized on this historic matchup, releasing limited-edition merchandise and launching innovative marketing campaigns. While official team partners like Polo Ralph Lauren and Madhappy have released exclusive collections, other brands are finding creative ways to participate.

Streetwear label Menace, for instance, is releasing a series of T-shirts featuring airbrushed graphics of Los Angeles in Dodgers colors. Awake is taking a more playful approach with a Yankees-inspired T-shirt that subtly jabs at Dodgers fans. Los Angeles-based sportswear brand Undefeated is hosting viewing parties in partnership with Nike and Union Los Angeles to create a communal space for fans.

The influence of baseball on fashion has been growing, with brands like Gucci and Supreme frequently incorporating team logos into their designs. However, this year's World Series presents a unique opportunity for brands to connect with a broader audience. Players like Shohei Ohtani, with his endorsement deals with Hugo Boss and New Balance, and Aaron Judge, a Jordan Brand athlete, are bringing a new level of style and influence to the sport.
The impact of this World Series is already being felt in the resale market. StockX reported a significant spike in searches for "Yankees" and "Dodgers" following the respective league championship series wins. This increased interest has also led to a surge in demand for baseball merchandise, particularly limited-edition collaborations and vintage items.
While the World Series presents a lucrative opportunity, brands face challenges in capitalizing on the moment. Securing official MLB licenses can be a lengthy and costly process, often taking months or even years, as highlighted by long-time MLB licensee New Era, whose approval processes can take several months. To overcome these limitations , brands are exploring alternative strategies, such as releasing unofficial merchandise or focusing on social media marketing to generate buzz.
As the World Series unfolds, it's clear that the impact extends far beyond the diamond. Brands are recognizing the opportunity to tap into the cultural significance of this event, leveraging the passion of fans and the influence of star players to create memorable marketing moments.
